Our New Addition

It’s hard to believe that it has been 2 months since Link officially made us a party of four! Even harder to believe that I can barely remember a time when I wasn’t his mommy, he just feels like such an embedded part of us and our family.

While I was still pregnant, I starting talking to Anita (owner of Anita Buist Photography) about a newborn session for the little man to be. With Summer we hadn’t gotten newborn photos (we had some done at around 6 weeks), but seeing photos of friends fresh babies I knew this time I wanted newborn photos.

My husband is a big video game guy, I kid you not – we have roughly 7 variations of the gameboy in this house, plus a member from each of the other gaming system platforms. So with this in mind, I thought it would be super cute and fun to do a Mario Bros themed newborn shoot and Anita was totally on board. Being as we carry a small selection of photo prop outfits, it seemed fitting to style his shoot upon the arrival of our little guy.

We have worked with Anita in the past (and written about our love of her work) but bringing our sweet 11 day old baby to her was a completely new experience. With our Mario outfit in hand, the gentleman’s soother from Indigo and an original NES pulled up from the depths of the basement we headed to Anita’s photo studio. Being a mom of 4, she is a real pro at managing babies and keeping mom feeling relaxed about the process of everything. From start to finish we were there about 2 hours, but it went by quickly and never did it feel like we were being rushed or like we were taking too long – really it was perfect.
Along with the themed shoot I dreamed up, Anita also had a beautiful selection of newborn wraps and additional props on hand. I chose the green wrap as it matched rather nicely with the colouring of his namesake (think Legends of Zelda), but there were so many beautiful colours and neutrals to choose from.

When we had done my daughters photos 3.5 years ago we had some with her beloved bunny.  Since Link had gotten his very own special bunny upon his arrival, I brought it with me in hopes of capturing some of the same sweet memories to look back on (and I’m so glad I did).

Because I am “that mom”, I already have grand plans for his first birthday cake smash (and let’s face it – a matching birthday party) AND I’m eagerly looking forward to family photos in August.
